The vertical extension has seen multiple iterations, each version faster than the last. Through 12 different combinations of motors, pulleys, and pulley blocks, we arrived at a mechanically efficient and high speed system. We use 8 Misumi SAR230 slides, 4 on each side, powered by two 1,150 rpm motors with 24mm spools. Each slide is sprung to the last, which offsets the weight of the payload – taking off significant stress from the motors. After testing 4 different string materials, we arrived at the thinnest string that kept up with the high loads and wear of hard use.
